Sun Glitters signs to Phoenix Publishing
I would describe the music of Victor Ferreira aka Sun Glitters as the sound of your most special summer. You know, when you are young and life happening to you is a wonderful discovery, something to behold and marvel at. The Guardian describe the Sun Glitters sound as “twitchiliy rhythmic music you can’t dance to – virtually 4D, tactile stuff”. Fader said his songs “sound like mountains moving”. My favourite quote comes from Listen Before You Buy, they say Sun Glitters “isn’t about the surface, but what ripples beneath; what you hear when you take away the mundane trappings of everyday life and are left with dreams and wishes. “ I think they really get it..
I guess that leaves not much to say in terms of describing the music, but I can say as a fan for a few years I (Felix, publishing honcho) am pleased and proud to publish this fine music. Sun Glitters belongs in a unique space between chillwave, dreampop, electronica, and performance art, but what it really is is an evolving listening experience, revealing a new layer on each listen. But don’t take my word for it, go check out some music! You’ll have to wait for the album ‘Scattered Into Light’ until January 2014, but in the meantime lots of music is available on the Sun Glitters Website, Soundcloud, and Facebook!
We Signed Space
27 November 2013
In the days when trainers were called trainers rather than sneakers, music came on circular discs, TV series were called TV series rather than seasons, and Liverpool FC were more than 10 titles ahead of Manchester United, a young band of Liverpool upstarts crashed the charts with their own brand of spikey pop, and thus began the meteoric rise to fame of the band called Space.
They hit the heights with classics such as ‘Female Of The Species’, ‘Neighbourhood’, ‘Avenging Angels’, and now its as if we were back in the golden days of the 1990s all over again, because Space is back! Armed with a new album ‘Attack Of The Mutant 50ft Kebab’, a new single and video for ‘Fortune Teller’, and a UK tour in 2014!
We’ve been hooked up with Space since we acquired their masterpiece albums ‘Tin Planet’ and ‘Spiders’ along with the Gut catalogue in 2007, so we are most pleased and happy to extend that relationship to include the publishing of the new album and new songs going forward.
The past present and future of Space is all here on their website.
Tickets for the tour are available here

Green Velvet meets Riva Starr
06 November 2013
Not content with tearing up the national charts, the dance charts, and having a video all over the tellybox with Eat Sleep Rave Repeat, Riva Starr has reminded us all of his amazing eclectic tastes and skills by collaborating with house and techno godlike genius Green Velvet on a track from Mr Velvet’s new album ‘Unshakable’. The track, ‘Robots’, is a piece of well oiled machine funk, in the best jackin techno traditions. It’s the lead track from the album that features collaborations with Phil Kieran, Oliver S and Gary Beck to name a few. The rumour that Riva and the ‘Bigger Than Prince’ producer are working on a follow up is yet to be confirmed..
Robots is the first track on ‘Unshakable’ by Green Velvet on Relief Records, available here on Beatport
Riva Starr On Course For The UK Top Ten
30 October 2013
It all started as a random encounter with a raving acid casualty in downtown Brooklyn. Now Riva Starr and Fatboy Slim’s 'Eat Sleep Rave Repeat' is firmly on course for a top ten UK chart entry this Sunday (Nov 3rd).
OK, we all know its actually the beatbox and sonic manipualtion wizard Beardyman on “vocals”, so add to that an acidic anthemic raving remix by regular chart topper Calvin Harris then we have a recipe for a big tune on the floor and in the charts.
Check out the hilarious video, which was a 12 hour danceathon with Fatboy Slim and Riva Starr djing. It’s amazing what people will do for £500! Big respect to them all for their stamina.
The single was released on Monday, so buy it on iTunes now, or on Amazon, or Juno..
Phoenix Title In GTA V Swahili Action
30 October 2013
One of our published tunes, by Mim Suleiman and produced by Maurice Fulton, has landed a nifty spot on one of Rockstar’s ‘Grand Theft Auto V’s’ radio station playlists! Grand Theft Auto, otherwise known as GTA, is a series of games set in the modern day but on fictional maps, and as you probably know involves all manner of organised crime from assassination to street racing to bombing to pimping! As well as these elements we’ll still be seeing all the things everyone knows and loves about the game, including of course the in-vehicle radio.
Be sure to scroll straight through to “Soulwax FM” and catch some Swahili house vibes while you’re off roaming the streets of Los Santos. The track is called ‘Mingi’ from the album 'Tungi' by Mim Suleiman, and can be found here for purchase and download. The game was released on the 17th September for XBOX and PS3 and can be found at any game store.
Phoenix signs Theo Parrish
11 September 2013
Phoenix Music International is most pleased and excited to announce we have signed the publishing of the Detroit enigmatic legend Theo Parrish, and his label catalogue Sound Signature.
Since the mid 90s Theo Parrish has been creating house and disco and soul and techno or in my opinion a unique creative individual translation of all of the above . Although Washington born and Chicago raised, Theo has been a central figure in the Detroit independent music scene, releasing his unique brand of deep soul inflected musical expressions for the dancefloor and for the discerning ear. A graduate in sculpture, Theo brings a holistic approach to making music – “When you're dealing with 3D work, you're dealing with volume, height, density. With sound, you're dealing with almost the same things except you're dealing with the time element too”.
With Tony Allen, Moodyman, Carl Craig, IG Culture, Eska, Ricardo Wilhite and more recently with Andrew Ashong and Fat Freddy’s Drop, Theo has worked with the best all shores have to offer.
As his only ever publisher Phoenix Music International is proud to represent a true originator.
Check out the recent Theo Parrish Black Jazz Signature mix compilation here, and a really rather excellent Quietus review here.
Sound Signature vinyl can be purchased here, most Sound Signature releases are only available on vinyl!

Film Screening Alert - 'I Am The Gorgon' says Bunny Striker Lee!
27 August 2013
I am the gorgon! So says Bunny Striker Lee, the subject and chief commentator of this film on the history of reggae music, from it’s birth in the bandstands and studios of Kingston Jamaica to its present day existence as one of the greatest and most far reaching cultural exports the world has ever seen.
Those who know reggae will know that Bunny ‘Striker’ Lee is one of the major players in reggae music. He alongside (the sadly departed) Glen Adams is responsible for Bangarang, a track largely touted as the first to be officially called reggae. In fact Striker Lee was the one who coined the phrase. He introduced many young artists to the UK in terms of recording and playing live, many of them going on to become legends. Slim Smith, Cornell Campbell, Max Romeo, Tappa Zukie, Lee Scratch Perry, Niney The Observer - things would have been different for all of these folk if it weren’t for the helping hand of Striker Lee. But don’t take my word for it, hear it for yourself! There are very very limited quest list places for the screening on Thursday August 29th at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill, London, available courtesy of the production company Jamaican Recordings here.
‘I Am The Gorgon’ will be on general release from December 2nd. Watch the website..
Bunny made these albums especially for us.

Eat Sleep Rave Repeat
26 June 2013
Ahead of his new album release next week, Riva Starr has collaborated with Fatboy Slim and some unknown raver guy from Brooklyn NYC. Here is the story in Fatboy’s own words - "Me and Stef (Riva Starr) were out vinyl shopping in Williamsburg, Brooklyn earlier this year when we met this dude ranting in the street about some 3 day bender he had been on (and possibly still was....) we hooked him into our Serato and chopped him up into a tune. I just wish we’d caught his full name......."
